Skid Resistance
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Skid resistance is not modelled in HDM5 owing to:
- Skid issues are typically at isolated locations (e.g. specific corners or junctions) within an overall much longer treatment length;
- Is best managed by selecting a higher polished stone value aggregate for the specific site, which does not lend itself to the longer HDM style treatment lengths;
- Is better managed as a maintenance type treatment rather than a pavement deterioration model;
- The HDM5 road safety model (refer to Volume 7) does not include a skid resistance component to it, such that there would be no means of triggering skid resistance works even if it were included.
Include an annual lump sum in routine maintenance activities to allow for costing of skid treatments.
